Controlled Medication Prescribing
In May 2023, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) announced the status of telehealth prescribing of controlled medications and rules for providers. The announcement states that a temporary rule will take effect allowing online psychiatric clinics, such as NestCalm, to continue prescribing controlled medications to new and existing clients on an ongoing basis without an in-person exam requirement.
An updated secondary announcement is now in place, extending telemedicine flexibility for prescription of controlled medications through December 31, 2024. NestCalm will continue to follow updates and remain in compliance with rules and regulations set forth by the DEA.
NestCalm clients will not have to attend an in-person visit to the clinic to receive a controlled medication prescription in 2024. If in the future, the DEA will revert back to the original rule and require in-person exams for controlled medication prescriptions as treatment, NestCalm is prepared and available to see clients for in-person visits when needed in select locations in the states we serve.
All prescribing decisions are made with evidence-based practice consideration and risk-based conservations based on the NPs clinical judgment and collaborative care with the client, but not by specific client requests. NestCalm’s approach to efficient, effective, convenient, high-quality mental health care and responsible prescribing includes:
Enough Time to Discuss Situation: Time appropriate appointments that combine psychotherapy with medication management to highlight the therapeutic relationship and allow NPs and clients to make the most effective decisions toward care.
Continuity of Care: Consistent Board-Certified Nurse Practitioners providing care throughout the client’s treatment journey
Convenient Technology Use: All visits occur through live “real-time,” face-to-face video via a HIPAA compliant software.
Standard Protocols: In-depth clinical policies and protocols to ensure practitioners adhere to best practice standards.
Thank you for your patience and understanding. Our clients’ success through efficient, effective, convenient, high-quality mental health care is our highest priority.
